WELCOME TO SHARNA HUSSAIN TRANSPERSONAL PSYCHOLOGY & SOMATIC PSYCHOTHERAPY
I am a transpersonal psychologist (BA, GradDipPsych, MAPsych), a somatic psychotherapist, and the director of The Ox-head School of Transpersonal and Somatic Psychology.
I have completed training in advanced trauma treatment techniques such as Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Havening. I am also certified in Dr Stanislav Grof’s Transpersonal Psychology and Holotropic Breathwork training. Furthermore, I have spent the last few years formally studying psychological astrology.
With a compassionate transpersonal approach, I utilise principles of Advaita Vedanta (or nonduality), Buddhist psychology and therapeutic astrology. I also assist clients through breathwork and somatic psychotherapy processes whereby unfinished business of the past can be resolved through the navigation of biographical, perinatal and transpersonal levels of experience.

My Approach and Practice Philosophy
Somatic-oriented transpersonal psychologist
As a somatic-oriented transpersonal psychologist, I support individuals whose quest is not merely to suppress symptoms, but to move towards transcendence, wholeness and individuation.
From the transpersonal perspective, the manifestation of symptoms are often best understood as marking the beginning of the healing process rather than the beginning of a disease or disorder. This is because the presenting symptom is often an attempt of the psyche to free itself from traumatic imprints and conditioning.
Another important assumption belonging to the transpersonal school is that we believe that the answer lies within the client. And we are not just speaking in symbolic terms – embedded in one’s own psyche is a complex system for transforming consciousness and bringing the nervous system back to cohesion. From this perspective the therapist is merely there to provide support and guidance for the emergence of one’s own inner healing intelligence.
I strongly believe that in choosing a therapist it is most important to find someone who will meet your specific personal needs. If this approach resonates with you, feel free to make an appointment to see if I might be the right therapist for you.
I acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people who are the Traditional Owners and custodians of this land I work on. I recognise their continuing connection to land, water and culture. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging.
